Now, more than ever, choosing the right fabric for your sofa is complicated. You have to meet your tastes and preferences and still make it stylish and elegant. Again, you need to consider your budget. Not to mention, if you have kids and pets it becomes a different story. Your focus shifts towards easy to clean upholstery fabrics that are also kid/pet friendly. Below are some fabrics that clean easily. First is microfiber. This fabric type is stain-resistant and better yet, you can simply wash it in water. However, following the manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations is mandatory. Next, there is wool. If you love to spot clean then wool is for you. It rarely wrinkles or snags. Leather is yet another easy clean fabric. This classy, elegant fabric has a glossy surface hence effortless to clean. Unfortunately, if you have pets it may be subject to scratches. Lastly, there is vinyl. Similar to leather, it is a great alternative if your budget is not as high. A simple wipe using a wet cloth is enough to remove stains. Here is the deal: you can find these fabrics and many more on More Fabrics- an online fabric supplier that deals in a wide range of quality fabrics.

Hello all! I hope you've had a great week and are ready for the festivities ahead! I'm back with something I've wanted to do for years -- a quick nighttime tour. The magic of the decor and lights isn't completely captured in photos, but it's still pretty lovely. :) Night is definitely our favorite time of day during the holidays!
If you'd like to see the room tours I've shared this month, you can see our cozy master tour (with tons of updates!) here, the kitchen and morning room tour here, our great room and then the basement decor here. I didn't change up much on our porch this year, so you can see all the details about that here.
I'll just be sharing the photos, so if you have questions about anything please ask in the comments! I hope you enjoy! :)
I hope your holidays are wonderful!! I'm so thankful for you all and your support again this year! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and yours. :)

Via https://www.thriftydecorchick.com/2018/12/a-nighttime-christmas-tour.html Hello my friends! ONE WEEK!! Ahhh! :) I'm actually pretty ahead of the game this year...the past couple of years I've been a bit more on top of things and it's been SO very nice to relax more during the season. I've completely let go of certain things like baking the perfect goodies (unless we just want some cookies), or sending out Christmas cards. I've learned over the years that I want to enjoy the season too -- instead of running around like a chicken! Hence the reason for this post -- if you are like most women I know, you stress a lot about making everything just right for everyone this time of year. But you need to treat yourself too. "Best day of the year!!" -- if you don't know that quote, be sure to check out this video. ? (One of the best shows EVER, btw.) So I've gathered a few of my favorite "treat yoself" items that you may want to check out for yourself. They are all products I use often, most of them every week, if not daily. I love them and I think you will too! First up, my favorite nail polish. I get a gel manicure a couple times a year and love the look, but I don't get them more often because they tear up my nails. I discovered the Sally Hansen gel a couple years ago and it's the only nail polish I use anymore. It doesn't last nearly as long as a gel manicure at the salon, but it does last longer than a regular manicure. I've had my nails painted since Saturday and they look like this today:
This color is called Red-y Set Run (affiliate) and it's my new favorite -- it's a pretty red with a slight sparkle. It's perfect for the holidays!
You use the color (two coats) as the first step, then cover it with step two, which is a clear coat. The paint holds up really well -- even better than the regular nail polish you can get at the salon. Also, it comes off with regular nail polish remover.
I get mine at the drug store or any department store. You can find the color options here and the top coat here.
I shared this hair tool a few weeks ago in my favorite things post before Thanksgiving, and it continues to be one of my all time fave beauty finds...ever:
It's basically a crimper like the old days (if you're old enough to remember the 80's like me). BUT it's much bigger...so it gives you big, beautiful, beachy waves instead of the tight look from back then.
You can see the "wave" shape here:
EVERY single time I use it, I get compliments on my hair. I LOVE IT so much. I got mine here but it's on a big time sale at Target right now!
About a year ago, I went searching for one of those monthly subscription services that delivers beauty products. I tried two different ones -- one let me sign up (including paying), and then told me I was on a wait list. (But I could share on Facebook to be moved up -- nope!) I found another one and filled out the survey for items I preferred. The first box included basically everything I said I didn't want...and they were all tiny, baby sizes.
Soooo. I used a code to get the Fab Fit Fun box for cheaper, and I've been hooked ever since. I was thrilled when they asked me to work with them earlier this year -- I've done that a couple times now:
Every item is FULL sized. They range from makeup to jewelry to items for the house to beauty products like masks and lotions. I absolutely LOVE every single box I've gotten. Because I work with them, you can use code TDC10 at this link and get $10 off your first box.
I'm a mask nut -- for my face and also my hair now -- I love trying different versions. My favorite masks are the peel off versions because I feel like they clean my face better. Some are a little extreme with the peeling though -- they can hurt!
I found this peel-off mask a few weeks ago and love it. It smells divine, it's easy to apply and to take off. It peels easily and any excess is easy to wash off:
I found mine at Old Navy but it's cheaper at Target.
This next item is the most expensive on the list -- but it's one I've used nearly every single day for a couple years now. I've had step-tracking watches before, but none of them were nice looking. I'd only wear them for working out.
I saw this Garmin version at the store one day and loved the look of it...and then realized it has a ton of awesome options as well:
It has a white rubber band with a pretty rose gold face. I get compliments on it ALL the time.
Then I show people what it does and they love it even more!:
It tracks steps, calories, stairs, stress, heart rate...all of it. You can also read texts on it and answer your phone calls (your phone just needs to be close so you can talk). It's the only watch I wear because it looks great with any outfit.
Mine has been banged around when I work on DIY projects and the glass is still perfect. I found mine here but it's on sale here right now. Love it!!
This one is another hair tool and it's tied with the wave artist for my favorite! It's the Revlon one step hair dryer and volumizer:
I really need to stop watching hair tutorials cause I keep finding good stuff! Ha! Both items were awesome finds though. I use this one on damp hair -- you just run it through your hair (it has a low and high setting) and it dries it quickly and gives your hair CRAZY good volume.
Also, I haven't used my flat iron in over a month...there's no need with this. It leaves my hair super soft with tons of LIFE...I just love it. It has a cool setting that sets your hair too. Another great aspect when I use this is that my hair looks great the next day. Still straight and looks pretty darn good after brushing.
The only complaint I have about it is that my wrists hurt when I use it sometimes. ? It's not super heavy but after a few minutes it starts to get a little awkward. I LOVE it though and highly recommend it! I got mine at Target but you can also find it here. I think you'll love it!
And my final item...that I saved for last because I love it so. I came across these pjs last year on a shopping trip. I'm typically NOT a person who spends money on pajamas, but these were on sale and I thought they felt so soft and cozy.
I have since ordered another set because I love them so much. The "cool nights" pjs are a thinner option and are SO wonderful:
I tend to get hot at night -- and I sleep best in a chilly room. I never sweat in these...they are amazing! They have so many cute options too. I love that the sizes are generous and comfy. They definitely run big so err on going a bit smaller if you're between sizes.I also have the embraceable pjs that are even more comfy. They are a jersey material and are a bit warmer, but I can still wear them in the summer without getting hot. Again, the options are so cute and they are PERFECT for lounging around with some hot chocolate on a winter weekend. (I know because I've done it!) They wash up beautifully too. They are on sale right now! There you go! These are a few of my favorite things. ;) I highly recommend them all and think you should treat yoself for the holidays. Of course they all make great gifts too! Do you have any of these items? Anyone get the wave artist after my last post about it? I'll be back later this week and then will be taking next week off to spend with family. Happy shopping/baking/wrapping!!

Via https://www.thriftydecorchick.com/2018/12/treat-yoself-with-these-favorites-of.html Today I'm continuing my Christmas tours with our basement family room. This room is just awesome -- it's a BIG space and this basement has taller ceilings than our last one. Our Christmas tree no longer scratches the ceiling. ;) As with the family room and kitchen tours, I'll share the photos and keep the "talking" to a minimum. I'll link to items and projects under the images. If I miss anything, let me know! I moved our World Market table (one of my favorite pieces) down here a few months ago and it's PERFECT in this spot: I also switched a couple small tables in the house awhile back and they look SO much better in their new spots. You can see what used to sit in this spot here -- and this one fits so much better at the bottom of our stairs: I mean...that's about the best thing ever! I am buying a stand up tree cover this year though. :) I have BIG plans for that TV wall...someday. It's a large wall that is calling out for some built ins:
When these light bulbs go out I plan to replace them with the daylight bulbs I love. I prefer them in areas where we don't have a ton of natural light.
You can read all about the sectional here. It's held up wonderfully -- although we don't sit on it every day. But it's gotten a lot of use over the past year:
I get asked about that table that slides under the sofa a lot -- it's so convenient! You can find it here (affiliate) -- just be sure to measure the height of your chair and/or the arms because it doesn't fit over the arms on most of the furniture we have.
I LOVE having the window in here -- the IKEA drapes (Sanela version) block the light completely if we are watching movies or TV during the day:
Other than the tree, I didn't decorate for the holidays down here last year since we had just been in the house for a couple months. It was so fun to add some holiday touches in this space!
You can find most of the sources for everything in this room in this post -- be sure to check that out if you're curious about anything. If you have any questions, please ask away!
Thanks for all your kind comments on the spaces so far! I've had a blast decorating our "new" house this year...we fall more in love with our home every day.
I'll be back next week -- have a fun and safe weekend!

Hello my friends! I'm back with another Christmas tour -- this time the family room. Thanks so much for your kind comments on the kitchen and morning room! :) The family room decor isn't much different than it was last year, but I've quite a few DIY projects in this room since then!
Like the last tour, I will leave links under each photo to projects or posts. I'll also sprinkle in some of the same views from last year so you can see the changes I've made in here!
Enjoy my favorite room in the house -- we love the high ceilings, the spaciousness and the beautiful staircase in this space. :) The first before and after -- with the dark blue added and DIY built ins:
This is how it looked last year:
This angle is one of my favorites (if not my favorite) in the whole house. LOVE!
I went with fresh greenery on the stairs this time -- I like to use them here and there in the house, but last year we had just moved in and I used our faux greenery.
I love the look of the real swags:
DIY wood and white stairs (from our last house)
I went back and forth about adding something to the greenery -- adding the DIY bows from last year at first. Then some ribbon. I removed it all and just ended up with some berry picks instead. The little touch of red was all it needed!
Fresh greenery does get crispy -- and it's messy to take down. I only put in in spots we don't touch. :) But it is soooo pretty and it saves a ton of storage space to not keep that fluffy stuff year to year.
Here's a look at the stairs last year:
The DIY picture ledges filled that awkward wall beautifully:
I love the contrast of the dark blue fireplace wall, especially at the holidays. I love how the pretty tones of fall and Christmas look with it:
This year I used a variety of faux greenery swags to build up the look on the mantel. I just placed them on and then started stacking them. I added flocked pieces here and there. It needed some red so I stuck some of those berries into this as well. I LOVE it!
The little reindeer votives are a favorite -- I found those at the Dollar Tree and spray painted them in a copper color. They are adorable! If you missed my other cute dollar store find, check it out in my kitchen tour. ;)
I love this shot of the fireplace straight on -- the symmetry. ? Gosh I love balance so much. This is that view last year:
I've taken a few weeks off of DIY projects and I'm already starting to get the itch to start more next year! I need to relax for a few more weeks first. ;)
I'm not usually a big fan of red in decor, but I can't imagine our house without it during the holidays! It's so festive and classic! I like to add touches of it everywhere:
I went a bit simpler on the tree this year -- I did big glittered, wired ribbon down the tree and then ornaments. I did add a few of the berry sprigs in there as well, but didn't have many left over:
Our tree is 12 feet tall and we've always had trees this big. The old one was a MESS last year (probably from the move) so we found this one at At Home soon after we moved in. I really love it -- it's SO much easier to put together and the lights turn on as you assemble it. Awesome.
The tall tree is ALL my husband. He just loves it!! He doesn't ask for much when it comes to the decor, so this is my labor of love for him. It makes him so happy when it goes up:
My three-year old niece reminded me that our tree was missing something -- a topper. ;) I told her I didn't have a ladder tall enough and she offered to do it for me. I'll take her up on that in about 15 years. :)
I hope you enjoyed the family room tour this year! This space is SO tall and quite large, but it feels so cozy and comfy. It's what sold us on this house back when it was just studs:
Here's the same view last year:
Thanks for indulging me! How tall is your tree? I'm usually cursing when we pull ours out, but when it's up and decorated I do love it. It definitely makes a statement! ?
Hope you enjoyed the tour! I'm hosting girlfriends this weekend and am focused on getting all of the glitter and needles swept up now that the decorating is done.
This tour of the family room has a list of sources if you are interested!

Via https://www.thriftydecorchick.com/2018/12/tour-of-our-christmas-great-room.html Living with young kids and pets can be tricky at times. This is mainly because they can get really messy and ruin or make your furniture dirty. Well, you obviously want to live in a clean, tidy house and should consider washing your upholstery fabric. There are fabrics that can be washed thoroughly by either hand or machine. However, there are those that can only be spot cleaned and would require you to use solutions provided by the manufacturers. It is also significant to note that not all fabrics are machine washable. For any upholstery fabric to be allowed in a washing machine, it needs to be a colorfast fabric that is also pre-shrunk. If you want to confirm if your fabric passes the pre-shrunk tests, then, the best place to find out is on the manufacturer's tag. You can also confirm if its colorfast by simply rubbing a damp white piece of cloth on the upholstered piece. If there is color coming off onto the cloth, then, your fabric is probably not colorfast and would require a professional cleaner. If your fabric passes the two main tests, it is ready for washing. There are some people who would prefer vacuuming and pre-treating spots or stains first for easy cleaning. It is recommended that you also refrain from using water that is either warm or hot. Remember that drying the upholstery is also delicate and needs careful guidelines.
Hello there! The countdown is on, right?? Not long now till the big day. It felt like I decorated later than ever this year and even though I feel like I kept it fairly simple (we're talking blogger simple here, OK? ?), it still took me a few days to get it all done.
It's so nice to enjoy the house now! Next year I AM going to start earlier. I know it's been a year, but I still feel like we're getting settled in the new house. I think next year I'll feel more on top of things.
For now I'm going to share the kitchen and dining area with you! I'll do a full tour sometime over the next two weeks, but for now I'm breaking it down a bit. Enjoy!!
I'll add links to specific projects under each photo:
I grabbed a bunch of the real greenery from Costco this year and used over the front door and the stairs. The extra bits I had were swagged over doorways. I just love it! And YES, it's already getting crispy. That's why I don't put it where it will be touched. ?
I found these Santa hat chair covers at the dollar store -- what a great deal right?:
I was going to put them in the basement but I tried them here last minute and LOVED them. So fun!:
I find (especially in the kitchen were there's already enough STUFF) that you don't have to add much to make it look festive. A few little additions and some faux greenery are plenty:
The chair covers just kill me. RUN to the dollar store! :)
I had hoped to get one more DIY project completed in the kitchen before the end of the year, but I don't think it will happen now. It's not a labor-intensive one, so who knows. You know me. ;)
The plan for that wall with the shelves has been delayed till next year, when the budget allows:
I keep boxwood wreaths up year-round, they look great all the time!:
Greenery and ornaments are my go-to -- so easy and cheap!:
Our dining area is a more casual space, and isn't really a separate room. I like to call it the morning room because of all the natural light we get in there:
If you missed the big updates I made in there recently, be sure to check those out! I have always said blue is a neutral and goes with just about anything -- even red looks great with the dark blue walls!:
Buddy hasn't moved in three days. He must like this spot!:
These inexpensive wood troughs I made years ago always come in handy during the holidays!:
This year I purged quite a bit holiday stuff I've had forever. For the first time in a long time I may shop for some deals after Christmas. I would like more decorative items like the brass reindeer (affiliate) I found at Target:
I tend to just add to things we already have -- adding the berries around the candle, the poinsettia in the planter (the olive tree finally gave up), greenery here and there.
But I'll be on the lookout for some decorative pieces too:
I didn't change up the new shelves as much as I thought I would -- yet again, a couple simple additions were just fine!:
The gnomes from IKEA are new this year and I just LOVE them. I'm not big into gnomes but these spoke to me for some reason. They are the cutest!:
I love them perched on the new window seat!:
I hope you enjoyed the tour of the kitchen and morning room! If you have questions about anything, let me know! I still look around this house (especially this time of year) and pinch myself. We are so in love with our new home! It's so comfy and cozy like our old house, but open and airy too. The best of both worlds!
I'll be back next week, have a wonderful weekend my friends! :)

Hello my friends!! I'm finally climbing out of the storage bins, glitter and pine needles! I didn't mean to take time away from the blog last week, but I was working hard on a few projects and getting the house decorated.
I feel like I got a really late start on the Christmas decor this year and was on a mission to get it finished. I put the finishing touches on our master bedroom today and I'm excited to share the recent updates with you! If you missed the dramatic tray ceiling makeover that I shared last week, be sure to check that out! We LOVE the ceiling and it's changed the whole feel of the room. It's so lovely and cozy...we just adore it.
This is a prime example of giving a decorating/DIY blogger a cookie...and how one change turns into a bunch of them! A few weeks ago, while I was working on that ceiling, I decided I wanted to change out the lamps. I had lamps on the night stands (see that makeover here!), but when we opened and closed the shades every day they were in the way.
Plus we had to use really bright bulbs in them to get enough light if we wanted to read. So I went back to something I did years ago -- sconces over the bed. Since we don't have wiring run here, they had to be a plug in version.
I found these (affiliate) plug in sconces online and they are soooo beautiful!:
They fit the room so much better and they have two bonuses -- the cord is clear which is nice, and they turn on with a dial on the actual sconce. Best part is they dim. You know I'm hooked on dimmers so I was thrilled with that!
Another big change you may notice -- we changed out the bed. For years now I've been wanted to build a platform around our bed. I preferred the clean look of an upholstered platform to the bedskirt. I went back and forth on making our own or buying.
I did some searching for a few months and my decision was made when I hit a mega sale around Thanksgiving on the Park Upholstered bed:
You may remember that we've had the DIY tufted headboard for years (I made it forever ago). I was planning to move it up to our guest room, but we don't have quite enough room up there. It went to my sister's instead.
I LOVE how grand this one is -- it fits the room so much better!! We love the little "wings" on the sides...it makes the bed feel even more cozy. And the upholstered platform is so much cleaner looking.
Here's a look back on our master from earlier this year when I first shared it:
And here it is with the changes I've made over the past ten months!:
I found this Christmas bedding at HomeGoods last year. I'd still like to find a pretty quilt for the end of the bed.
Aren't the sconces pretty? I just love how they look -- and they tie in with the color of the chandelier and the knobs on the night stands:
We like to have a tree in the bedroom and this year I put it in the middle of the big window instead of in the corner: The chandelier finally has a dimmer so especially on dark days like today this light stays on low:
Goodness I love dimmer switches. ;) I'll do a recap on the items in this room below in case you're interested in anything!
This is phase two of three for our master -- I still have another project planned. And down the line we may add hardwoods in this room like our old master. I have really liked the carpet, but also love hardwoods in the master, so we'll see!
I'll be sharing a Christmas tour soon, but until then be sure to follow along on Instagram for pics throughout the week! :)
Because I love them so much, here's another before and after! This was taken a few months ago (see more about that sign here):
And here's the same view, bringing all the drama!:
I'm obsessed with our ceiling! ??
Do you add any Christmas touches to your bedroom? I highly recommend it! :) Are you finished with your holiday decor or are you still going?
If you interested, here are the sources for everything. Affiliate links included for your convenience!:
Bamboo chandelier (I found it at the outlet store)
Bedding, bench -- HomeGoods
Spool chair -- HomeGoods but this one is very similar
Bench -- HomeGoods but this is the same one
Drapes -- IKEA Sanela
